Resources

The Greater Cincinnati Chapter is brand new and just getting started. If you are from the Cincinnati area, you know that “Greater” Cincinnati includes Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Chair, Claire E. Parsons, practices in both Kentucky and Ohio and wanted the local chapter to be as inclusive as possible.

Claire practices in the areas of employment law, local government, and litigation. When she is not practicing, she also teaches and writes about meditation, mindfulness, and compassion. She has been teaching mindfulness for lawyers and professionals for 5 years and serves on wellness committees for her local and state bar associations. She founded the group to create the opportunity for more local connections for lawyers interested in mindfulness.

In particular, Claire’s vision for the Chapter is to have in-person meetings and events, including courses, retreats, and book clubs. To make this chapter a reality, we need your help. If you are interested in getting involved, please reach out to Claire at her office or on LinkedIn. She is spreading the word about the Chapter and seeking to create a leadership team.

In the Cincinnati area, there are several existing groups whose mission is to encourage the well-being of area lawyers, including through mindfulness:

Brilliant Legal Mind

In addition to those offered by MILS here, Claire offers a number of free resources for lawyers interested in mindfulness on her blog, Brilliant Legal Mind. The blog has more than 150 posts explaining mindfulness practice in simple terms, offering ways to use the concepts in life, and sharing the stories and voices of other lawyers discussing mindfulness and mental health. The blog also has a series of short videos to help anyone new to mindfulness learn more quickly and it offers a series of e-books available for download to encourage further study. The blog also offers several guided meditations that are tailored to the needs of lawyers. For anyone interested in more depth, Claire has written an accessible guide to starting a meditation practice called How to Be a Badass Lawyer: The Unexpected and Simple Guide to Less Stress and Greater Personal Development Through Mindfulness and Compassion.
